The Anti-Corruption court has summoned senior police chiefs including former Kampala South metropolitan police commander Siraje Bakaleke to appear and answer to charges of abuse of office.

The charges are in relation to allegations of the kidnap, wrongful arrest and confinement of three Korean investors.

Bakaleke is summoned alongside six other police officers.

Bakaleke who is at the rank of Assistant commissioner of police is said to have used his office and connived with Mugoya Wanyoto, a city lawyer to defraud about 415,000 US dollars from the three Korean nationals.

According to court documents seen by this website, after the wrongful arrest of the Korean nationals, Wanyoto obtained another 30, 000 US Dollars from them on false pretence that it was a legal fee to represent them on the criminal charges they were facing.

Bakaleke, Wanyoto alongside others face 12 counts of abuse of office, kidnap and abducting with intent to confine a person, embezzlement, obtaining money by false pretence and conspiracy to commit an offence.

When the case came up for plea taking in court today, only Samuel Mulowooza; the managing Director of Eye power Engineering Company was present.

This prompted grade one magistrate Moses Nabende to issue criminal summons ordering Bakeleke and his co-accused to appear on October 5, 2018.

This was after a state attorney from the DPP's office Harriet Angom explained to him that there is no evidence on court record that Bakaleke and seven others were served with the previous court summons.

However, Mulowooza denied the charges and was granted a cash bail of Shs4 million.
