Ugandans Ignorant About Spina Bifida - Minister

State minister for primary healthcare, Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu, has said many Ugandans are ignorant about the causes, prevention and management of Spina Bifida and hydrocephalous and yet all are at risk.

Dr Moriku says that ignorance is the reason many think it is witchcraft and therefore families do not seek treatment.

According to Mayo Clinic, Spina bifida is a birth defect that occurs when the spine and spinal cord don't form properly, forming a sac filled with fluid in the back.

Improper Waste Disposal Threatens Residents' Lives

The poor disposal of garbage in Kanyanya-Kitara in Kawempe Division is posing a threat to the lives of residents. The suburb is located along Gayaza Road.

When you reach this place, used polythene bags, plastics and other types of garbage is seen scattered all over the free land areas and the water trenches meant to ease the flow of water.

Makerere Rubbish Pits, Survival for Two Street Boys

The Makerere rubbish pits have turned into a source of survival for two street children in Wandegeya. 14-year old Shakul Mukasa and a 10-year old only identified as Peter rely on the rubbish pits of Makerere to collect boxes and paper, which they sell to get the basics of life.

The two boys are commonly seen in the rubbish pits of Lumbox, Complex and Mitchell and dust bins around the different Colleges on campus.
