The illegal extraction of sand from a Kikoni trench has left residents in fear of accidents and stagnant water, as its depth and width increases.

Because of the sand extraction by unidentified people, the flow of water in the trench has been hindered thereby becoming a habitat for mosquitoes and also increasing the risk of accidents especially to young children. The volumes of sand extracted and the prices are unclear since people do the extraction during night.

Residents of Kikoni A Zone have been advised to move with little money in cash, to avoid chances of being robbed. The call was made by the area LC 1 chairman, Martin Lutaaya.

All participants in this year’s cultural gala will have to present their student IDs or biodata as a way of eliminating mercenaries and ensuring a fair competition. This was revealed by the Culture guild minister, Samuel Obed, during a consultative meeting between cultural leaders of the different associations and guild officials.
