Sadik Wabwe, a Makerere University student awaiting graduation with a Bachelor’s degree in Organization Studies, has spearheaded a campaign to save the life of Nakawoya Hanifah, a six-year old girl at Kinabi Umea Primary School in Jinja district.

The campaign, dubbed “5000 campaign to save Nakawoya Hanifah” was carried out using his ‘wabwe media group’ that according to him exists in 241 WhatsApp groups and nine diaspora broadcasts.

“I saw a needy girl, and I had to swing into action. I used the opportunity of wabwe media being in many WhatsApp groups to tell members about the need and I am happy that people responded positively by sending the money,” Wabwe told journalism@mak.

The campaign has seen him raise the targeted 500,000 shillings by 12th November, 2018. The money was sent to the caretaker Nandawula Azidah, whose mobile money numbers were included on the messages Wabwe sent in various WhatsApp groups.

Speaking to the care taker on phone, she confirmed the initiative and affirmed that the patient will be transferred from Kinabi village to a better hospital in Kampala.

“I am happy and proud of this young man; may God bless him. We can now take Hanifah to Kampala for treatment, we already have the 500,000 shillings meant for the tetanus syringes, transport and food,” Wabwe adds.

Arinaitwe Yusuf, a follower and reader of wabwe media news appreciated and commended such a spirit and proper use of social media. “I am glad that such a youth has utilized WhatsApp for a positive social contribution, this is a challenge to the youth.
