A senior five student of St Mary’s College Rushoroza in Kabale town
was on Sunday evening shot dead by the police as senior three students fought those in senior six over front seats in the school's main hall.

The deceased was identified by police as  Allan Ntunguka, 19.

Senior three students accused those in senior six of disrespect when the latter rushed and occupied their front seats, moments to the start of a match that was between Arsenal and Liverpool.

Its said that simple quarrling and fighting shotly after turned into a riot that left the whole main hall up in a riot.

The police spokesman for Kigezi sub region, Mr Elly Maate, explained that the School administration called them to calm the student, adding: "Incident happened between 6 and 7pm at the school campus on Rushoroza hill."

The school head teacher Remegio Byamukama confirmed that the incident happened at his school. He
also stated that the situation is now
normal as classes were going on.
Burial arrangements were being
made to transport the deceased to his home in Nyaruhanga Rubanda
district.

Maate also said that they suspect Jacob Musawo to be the one who commited the offence of shooting  a student because they recovered his gun abandoned at Rushoroza police station where he has been attached. He added that they are hunting for him.

"The school is on a hill and police men were shooting in the air from a valley so as to disperse rioting students...it's a stray bullet that hit him in the chest and he died a few minutes after being taken to the hospital," Maate said, adding policemen and women should learn when to act and how.
