Student Forces Makerere to Suspend Plans Of Closing Fort Portal Campus

Moses Mugisa a second year student of Business Administration from Fort Portal Campus has successfully halted plans by Makerere management to close the western based institution.

Last month, Mugisa dragged the university to court for breaching the contract after their acting vice chancellor Dr Ali Twaha, at the end of the semester, gave them circulars indicating that the campus would not open this academic year, 2016/2017.

Stella Nyanzi Refuses To Turn Up For Dialogue With Makerere

Efforts to resolve conflict at Makerere University Institute of Social Research (MISR) hit a snag on Friday after the embattled Dr Stella Nyanzi failed to turn up for negotiations.

According to Bruce Kabaasa, Dr Nyanzi was supposed to face the Makerere University appointments board yesterday July 29 to discuss a way forward about her stay and terms of her employment at MISR, but she did not surface.

"We informed her about the meeting earlier, but someone told us she is abroad," Kabaasa told Journalism@Mak in a phone interview.

The chairperson Makerere University appointments board, Bruce Kabaasa has said that the embattled Dr Stella Nyanzi is still an employee of the university, adding most recommendations by the investigations committee have been found to be baseless

While speaking at a press conference that was aimed at highlighting the current state of Makerere Institute of Social Research (MISR) where Nyanzi is employed as a research fellow at Makerere on Tuesday, Kabaasa said that "she can only be relieved of her duties after following a legal procedure.
