Makerere closure: student leaders give govt last warning

Makerere University Guild President Roy Ssembogga with his fellow student leaders have given government a two-day ultimatum to reopen the campus or they organise a one-million march to Parliament.

Speaking during a guild press conference held at Makerere university Guest house today at 10am, Ssembogga said the closure of the university deprived students of their right to education. He added that this is totally unfair for students who have fully paid their tuition but are held up in this situation.

Makerere Law Professor blasts Minister Lokodo over Nyanzi nude protest

Sylivia Tamale, a law professor at Makerere University has blasted the Ethics and Integrity minister Fr Simon Lokodo for issuing arrest warranty for Dr Stella Nyanzi when she staged a nude protest.

While delivering her inaugural professorial lecture titled : Nudity, protest and the law in Uganda at Makerere, yesterday, Prof Tamale said Lokodo is impartially enforcing the law which does not conform with the principles of the discipline.

UNBELIEVABLE: Makerere Students, administrators quiet as lecturers' strike enters day two

Lecturers at Makerere went on strike on Wednesday and stopped teaching both day and evening students, but it’s unbelievable how the university administration and students have since gone silent about the matter.

The lecturers are demanding for incentive arrears for the past eight months totaling to Shs 40 billion.

While meeting as Makerere University Academic Staff Association (Muasa) on Wednesday, the lecturers said they have been too patient with the administration which has always played ping-pong games, something that informed their decision.
