Samuel Mugarura, a fourth year Chemistry student at Makerere who made tear gas and demonstrated how it works on Sunday has cried out for recognition as a law abiding Ugandan and not a terrorist.

“I am a student and a proud citizen who just made his imaginations real, so let no one make this political... I am simply a mukiga who hails from Kigezi though my family migrated to Kiruhura” he revealed.

Mugarura, also commonly known as Falcao in the Makerere community, said he decided to venture into this explosives project simply because that’s what his heart has always wanted him to do.

He is however much hopeful that government will lend him a hand in seeing his project contributing to the betterment of Uganda.

AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi, the police spokesperson, when appearing on BBS Terefayina on a programme known as 'Maaso ku Ggwanga' said that Mugarura`s project is very sensitive since it involves invention of an item whose supply is monopolized by the State security agencies for example the police and army.

Kaweesi however assured Mugarura that if he follows the right procedures of accrediting Security related projects, the state is much willing to lend a hand just like it did to amazing innovations at Makerere University like the Kiira-EV project.
