King Oyo visits Makerere, Creates Alliance

The famous king of Tooro his Majesty 'Rukira Basaija' Dr. Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, visited Makerere, the oldest and most prominent university in Africa on Friday.

 His majesty King oyo was invited by the Makerere University Tooro Students Association (MUTOSA) in partnership with other students from Tooro in universities around Kampala. Oyo arrived at the University at around 3:00 p.m, flanked by princess Bagaya, the Prime minister among other officials from the kingdom.

 The visitation was among others, intended to fulfill his foreign policy as a cultural leader by creating an alliance between the University and Tooro Kingdom that will see the two partners share knowledge on how to boost agriculture and livestock rearing, and also to educate the youth on how well to manage their lives.

 "Respect your bodies, take care of your lives to avoid sexually transmitted diseases especially HIV/AIDS, so as to leave a healthier life, and above all, respect your culture, it will give you more opportunities in your lives." King oyo said.

The first part of the function took place at the University main hall, where the Vice chancellor, Prof Ddumba Ssentamu, expressed sincere gratitude to the King for having chosen Makerere University for his first university visit in Kampala. Prof. Ddumba also accepted to create an alliance between the institution and the Kingdom of Tooro.

"Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru, as Makerere University, we appreciate your visit to us and we hope for more visits like this in future...Makerere and Tooro are now partners ..." Prof. Ddumba said.

The senior legal advisor for Makerere University read out an act that saw the two partners enter an alliance. Both King Oyo and Prof. Ddumba Ssentamu, signed on the legal document. The guild president, H.E Bala David Bwiruka, also appreciated the King's visit and called for more visits from him.

"His majesty, we thank you for having visited. This is the genesis of friendship between our beloved kingdom and Makerere University... Ahangirize Entale ya Tooro," he said.

From the main hall, King Oyo visited the Food Science and the Technology department, where he planted a tree and was showed machines used to process juice, Milk and various other items like bread, and others. The function ended with a cocktail party at the same building, where the King shared a meal with his subjects from Tooro Kingdom.
