To all those who have been inconvenienced by the renovations at the Arts Building, the project is expected to end next month. The timeline has been extended because the contract was revised to allow the contractor renovate the toilets, painting of the entire building, among others.

Anthony Mugerwa, the sub-contractor also says they encountered many challenges in the initial stages of the project. "We started this project in the rainy season which caused a lot of interruptions with the work we were handling at that time… we had planned to use the very roof tiles for the renovation but when we kicked off, we realised the old roof tiles were spoilt and rotten that many could not be used again and so we had to sit and plan again for the acquisition of new roof tiles,” Mugerwa explained.

“Our estimation was to use one thousand roof tiles but we have so far used five thousand (5000) which increased our budget, but hopefully by next month we shall have finalised with everything," Mugerwa told this reporter.

Joshua Mwesigye, the administrator for the project explained, "the renovation has delayed due to challenges we have been facing here and there. But mainly the extension of the work and the revision of the contract has led to our delay and this is beyond our control but with our progress we have made, by next month we shall have finished."

Prof. Edward Kirumira, the Principal of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences says the scope of work was expanded. “In the start, we saw the renovation of this building on a narrow scope leaving out many major aspects and so we decided to add in all the required items for the renovation. Our aim is not to only make the outside look good yet the inside is rotting. But our appeal to the contractors is that they should be through with the renovations before exams kick off.”

Josephine Nabatte, a second year student of Bachelor of Arts in Arts is pleased with the renovation work being done on the building.
