The Makerere University hospital has installed the Biometric attendance machine to solve worker absenteeism and leisurely departures and arrivals.

The machine was procured and installed early this semester using the 15 percent tuition increment on the first year students' medical fees. The machine has been put at the hospital entrance and works by detecting the worker's thumb on the biometric.

According to Dr. Josephat Byamugisha, the hospital director, "This machine is to help in eliminating worker absenteeism, negligence in working hours and improvement in delivery."

He noted that absenteeism has been the greatest challenge at the hospital but now turning into history since workers are highly monitored.

A clinical officer who preferred anonymity said he now reports to the hospital at 8am and leaves at 5pm, something that wasn't the case a few months ago.

Emoru Reagan Daniel, the 84th Guild Health Minister said that students can now go to the University hospital sure of medical services.

Kayaga Josephine, a second year Bachelor of Food Science student said that she went to the University hospital at 10:00am and found a doctor, was treated and left shortly, the first time this is happening.
