Tuesday night turned out to be a memorable one as year four medicine students celebrated their victory in the College sports gala at Mamma Box Restaurant, Mulago.

There had been a number of competitions in football, chess, volleyball, scrabble, among others but football was the most valued.

“There were many competitions upon which the victor would be pronounced but we are here jubilating because we won the football trophy, which was the most valuable,” said Byamugisha Joseph, College of Health Sciences President who was part of the fourth year team.

The College of Health Sciences comprises of four Schools that is, School of Public Health, School of Pharmacy, School of Biomedical Sciences and School of Medicine and the competition involved eight teams with each school fronting one team save for Medicine School that had five teams.

The competitions were held on a rainy Sunday of 11th November in the Makerere main sports grounds when they were announced overall winners, after defeating year two Medicine team on penalties 5-4.

The bull was decorated and taken to Makerere Police station, where it was until Tuesday morning when a section of students together with butchers from Kalerwe picked and slaughtered it near Eastern gate and they took fresh beef to Mamma Box Restaurant Mulago for roasting.

It was their third consecutive final since their year two and only lost out last year while they reached the semi-finals in year one.

“We won in year two, reached semi-finals last year and again we have lifted the trophy, we were even semi-finalists in year one. We are a great team. We deserved to be crowned,” said Douglas Tuhumwirwe, the team captain.
