Birungi Sharifah, a second year student of Social Works and Social Administration who is the  Vice chairperson, NRM Makerere University chapter, Guild representative Council of School of Women and Gender Studies , and the Deputy Prime minister of the 81st Guild. She is ambitious and set to get whatever she wants and hopes for in life.

Who is Birungi Sharifah?

Birungi Sharifah is a simple and a people’s person

What do you do in your free time?

I read novels, watch T.V, and chat with friends among others.

How do you balance leadership roles and studying?

I love promoting people’s views, because I have the voice and confidence in presenting the needs of the people: however when it is class time, I mean class. I’ve managed to handle both politics and academics, my grades haven’t disappointed me so far. I believe I will keep up the great performance.

Becoming GRC and a Rt. Hon Minister in your first year is such a rare thing to find. How did you accomplish this?

The Guild President is a wise man who looked at the different capabilities of a person: he sees talent and promotes it. I am not saying he chose the best but rather he managed to pick up the people he could manage to work with. I’m lucky and I thank God for that.

What do you say of the various rumors about you that tend to spoil your image?

Yes, I have heard the rumors, People say I did this and that, I’m rude, but whenever you are in the spot light and people have to talk: when they do not talk about you, then know you are useless. I just let the rumors go their way and I do my work. I don’t care so much about rumor at the end of the day, it is my God and I who know the truths therefore I put everything in God’s hands. To those who do nothing but gossip, they should read a novel, or book, anyhow, whenever they gossip, they make us work harder.

Do you have a boyfriend?

I have someone in my life and we are very happy. His name is Kayondo Latimah, a law student, the former GRC of Lumumba hall. We have been in the relationship for seven months now.

Is it true that you and Bala David once had an affair?

It is not true, what Bala David, the Guild President and I discuss is absolutely professional, we are just good friends.

What have you achieved as the Deputy Prime minister?

That would be mean of me and unfair to my colleagues especially my President because we have achieved all together

You look to be extravagant, where does your money come from?

Giggles…..

My parents and yes, I am a little extravagant. I just love looking good and I spend on myself; I fell at peace when shopping. Shopping is my biggest hobby. I buy myself bags; shoes, clothes and any other in that category just to look good.

What are your goals?

To be successful and not to be under any one’s wings, I want to fly and reach positions that no one has reached before.
