Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago wants outgoing Executive Director, Jennifer Musisi to provide full accountability of the things she did before she leaves office. Despite Musisi’s resignation notice to leave office in December, Lukwago says she needs to account for the tax payer’s money, as well as her deeds while in office.

Lukwago was speaking at a press conference at Kampala Capital City Authority, where he was reacting to ED’s resignation.

"It is not a matter of throwing in the towel and you run away. She will have to account before she goes," said a pleased Lukwago.

He also expressed pleasure over Musisi's resignation, welcoming the days ahead without Musisi as the Executive director of Kampala Capital City Authority. "I am happy this day has come to pass," added Lukwago, who sang a song for the departing Musisi.

Lukwago and Musisi have been sharply divided, with their disagreements sometimes affecting service delivery. Musisi as Executive Director heads the technical wing, while Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago heads the political wing.

Musisi tendered in her resignation notice on 15th October, 2018 to the President through the Minister of Kampala, Betty Kamya. In her 21-paged letter, she enumerated the work she has done towards transforming Kampala city for the last seven and half years in office. He recent contract was due to run until 2020.

She cited lack of adequate resources and political interference as some of the reasons for her resignation, saying these do not allow her and her team to perform well to serve the city.

However, vendors that were chased away from the streets of Kampala have welcomed her resignation.

"I am very happy that she has also left; I thought she was an angel that she could not leave," said Kayiira Julius, a former city vendor dealing in shoes.

"God is good, let her also face the environment outside government. She will suffer as we did," said Kamoga Geoffrey, who hails from Nansana and also once vended bread.

Musisi will leave office on 15th December 2018, although the presidency has not yet commented on her resignation.
