Alpha Investments Limited has emerged as the most innovative business at the 3rd Annual Entrepreneurship Expo organized by College of Business and Management Sciences (COBAMS).

Alpha Investments Limited was selected the best exhibitor, after they showcased how to make fuel from plastics, to protect the environment from degradation.

According to their CEO, Samuel Begumisa, they worked hard and relied on teamwork to get this success.

"This is our first time to come on board and get exposed. For us to choose fuel, it was an idea that came out of creativity. We do petroleum out of specific plastics and we are planning to continue with this idea as we are expecting many sponsors since we have been exposed to the public," Begumisa told this reporter.

The group used Shs 1.5 million as their capital, and they happy to win the one million because the project was part of coursework, from which they never expected any money.

Samuel Begumisa says that their petroleum is still under the manufacturing process, and has not yet been cleared by Uganda National Bureau of Standards, but promised that they will be on the market soon.

Different groups from the same College gathered at Makerere University Freedom Square to showcase their different ideas that included making fuel, making pavers, tailoring, making ice cream, among others.

Prof. Umar Kakumba, the Dean of Business School congratulated the winners and appreciated all the participants.

Mary Namuleme from Poly Pavers Investment Limited emerged as runner up. The group showcased making of pavers from polythene bags. The group won 700,000 shillings.

"We looked at our environment and we saw that polythene bags are everywhere; so we thought of an idea that can make these polythene bags useful and decided to go with pavers after doing some research. We hope to continue with this innovation and we believe that we are to make some good pavers with time at a fair price,” Namuleme said.

This Annual Entrepreneurship Expo is a competition as well as part of the group coursework, and students are given marks for their innovations.
