Police spent a fair portion of their time yesterday searching the home of Nakawa's Member of Parliament after arresting him on Wednesday.

Michael Andrew Kabaziguruka was arrested from Port Bell Luzira and was shortly after taken to the Special Investigations Directorate in Kireka where he is being detained and interrogated.

By press time, Journalism@Mak could not get what was exactly was got from Kabaziguruka's home, where Besigye was staying before going to exile in 2001. But according to some well placed sources, he has been suspected committing treason.

Asked what charges Kabaziguruka, who is also FDC's deputy electoral commissioner, is facing, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said that it's not yet an appropriate time to divulge into the matter, adding he had been arrested with one other person, whom we are yet to identify.

“The circumstances under which they were arrested are very sensitive, although we cannot
divulge any further details at this stage for fear of jeopardizing our investigations, we can only
confirm to you that the suspects are helping us with investigations, into some very serious
offences that involve other suspects as well,” Enanga said, adding that the public will be made to know after the investigations are done.

BACKGROUND

Our research shows that Kabaziguruka has ever been in cells before, and he is the same person who defeated the former Attorney General Fred Ruhinda.

Shortly after the 2011 presidential election, rumours were all over that there is a rebel group known as
Revolutionary Forces for the Liberation of Uganda (RFLU). In September 2012, police tiptoed Kabaziguruka, arrested him and he was charged with treason in court.

It is also on record that after the controversial 2016 presidential election, Kabaziguruka's home was put under siege and he could not, at times, be allowed to move out.

The MP's arrests has stirred anger and criticism among some of the party loyalists who described it as a state strategy meant to frustrate defiance plans of the key figures in FDC.
