Ismail kasozi is a second-year student, doing a bachelors degree in Industrial and Fine Art (BIFA), for his second degree after a bachelors in Performing Arts. He is currently the president of industrial art and fine arts.

He went to KDS primary school, Buddo S.S for O-level and London school of St.Lawrence before joining Makerere University.

He boosts of a talented life style as a young man including singing, being a guitarist, an actor under Mariam Ndagire, hair stylist, technician, a car pimp, owns a saloon among many others.

Most people call him RASTA, which he says is okay, he both juggles study and work to pay his tuition.

What is that one thing that inspired you to contest for the guild presidential seat?

I have never wanted to leave an aimless life, I always want to leave a positive mark on people’s lives, I also want to lead and benefit other people’s lives. Is a leader who knows the way, goes the way and leads the way, my dreadlocks do not define me, but go through me and don’t judge a book by its cover.

How is your campaign trail so far?

Not bad but a bit challenging when it comes to the expenses like putting up posters and banners and then you find that they have collected or destroyed them all away.

Haven’t people judged you by your looks and doesn’t being a Rastafarian affect your guild presidency ambitions?

I have been judged a lot, people have crammed life and they expect a guild president not to clad in jeans, no dread locks among others but for as long as the person has the capacity to instill in confidence. He is good to go

Have we defined politics for the “serious courses” mostly in the sciences and neglected arts?

They should know that there is no mind as creative as the arts man or woman’s mind, so definitely they have always missed that artistic touch to it.

what is that one thing you must focus on, for the first 100days as guild president?

I want to manhandle the academia, students’ welfare and the tuition policies.

Talking of manhandling, do Rastafarians strike?

Where need be, we have to demonstrate.

Is the solution to Makerere University only handled by strikes?

I think that is the only solution because over the years we have tried dialogue and it has failed. And this time we are planning on spicing up the strike by including in parents because I do not need to borrow a parents shoe to know what they go through to get that money under the given pressure.

The problem is that we have been soothing and romancing the university administration, Africans learn the hard way, so we are going to strike until they open their ears.

The institution looks to have a lot of challenges from unfair policies to missing marks, delayed results and more so, are you ready to handle all these challenges?

I always sing in my campaigns that “I am a man who can handle, no matter what kind of trouble”

How are you planning to enforce all these promises?

Whereas students are given rules and regulations the staff teaching staff should be given even tougher ones, so that like results should be out by the first second week into the semester.

The past leaders have promised us more of the same, but how come they never fulfill?

They are manipulated a lot which is the reason I came independent; I want things done my own way, and we need to do away with all the selfish minds.

I have been funded by students so, I am not the kind that gets in office and focuses on my stomach.

Has the 81st guild cabinet represented you as a student effectively?

Honestly speaking: I am not contented at all.

Where do you think David Bala went wrong because he seemed to have the game right, had the same energy as you do, he was the tiger of the university but not anymore?

I wouldn’t want to judge the man, he could have done something but I personally have felt absolute nothing from his leadership and I am disappointed.
