Masaka residents are still in shock after two soldiers attached to the
UPDF Armoured Brigade Barracks at Kissajjagirwa in the District were yesterday shot dead from inside the military base.

The dead have been identified as Corporal Bahingana and Lance corporal Kabugo, who were killed while guarding the military technical stores in the barracks.

Authorities in the barracks said that hasn'tnt been a terrorism plan, but was just an act of indisclipline committed by one od their own soldiers who is still on the run.

Retired Lieutenant Joe Walunsimbi, the head of the district security
committee, confirmed the incident.

“I have personally visited the scene, but there are no clear indicators of any attack. Had it been the case, you would have witnessed heavy combat deployment everywhere in town,” he said.

Lt. Walusimbi also identified the killer of the two soldiers as Lance Corporal Joseph Aliyoni from the same barracks.

“We have nothing to hide in all
this: our teams are already out hunting for this undisciplined soldier and we are sure he will be apprehended shortly,” Walusimbi said.

Journalists were barred from accessing the crime scene.

However, it should be noted that cases of soldiers shooting people dead have been on increase, of recent. In late June, a soldier attached to Makindye Barracks killed 8 people, for reasons yet to be established.

In late april, Lance Corporal Moses
Katungwensi Katoko of Mburamizi 307 Brigade in Kanungu District shot eight people dead and
handed himself to police.
