Cavendish University has won this year’s institutional media challenge, organized by the Media Challenge Initiative (MCI). Cavendish won the competition after bagging seven awards.

Cyrus Muwonge, the MCI coordinator for Cavendish University was pleased with their performance, the first time they have won the competition. "I am so happy that we have managed to win this competition. It is unbelievable because for all the years, it has been Makerere taking the overall award. We didn't expect it but we thank God for this victory," Muwonge told journalism@mak.

He added that they did enough practice for this year’s competition. Some of the awards Cavendish won included best anchor award, best editor award, among others. Patricia Achan, one of the participants from Cavendish rexplained that it was not easy for them to win this challenge.

Ten universities and journalism training institutions participated in the competition, including Makerere University, St. Lawrence University, Uganda Christian University, Islamic University in Uganda, among others.

Some of the participants complained about the judging process. Reagan Kiyimba, one of the participants from Makerere University said that he was denied a chance to showcase his works and his opponents from other Universities were given a chance.
