A team of staff from Radio Maria has visited different communities in and around Makerere University to celebrate mass and recite the rosary with them.

The communities visited by the radio staff this week include University Hall, Nkuruma Hall, Kikoni and Kikumi-kikumi among others. The radio staff was targeting Catholics who pray at St Augustine’s Chapel, Makerere.

Eugene Ouma, the head of technical and editorial department at Radio Maria, said the celebration mass and recitation of the rosary are broadcast live on radio. "As a way of evangelization, we conduct live mass to enable listeners receive the gospel message from St Augustine Chapel," said Ouma.

He explained that for the whole of this week all holy masses will be aired on radio for a wider audience and to all listeners.

Edwin Turyasingura, a students’ coordinator, says that many students have been drawn closer to God, revealing that there has been a big turn up of students as compared to other days whenever they have mass in different communities. "The visit of Radio Maria has changed the lives of many for example in the places we have been, we had students fully participating in organising  for the visit and prayers,” he explained.

Reverend Father Dennis Mugerwa, the assistant Chaplain at St Augustine Chapel, said Radio Maria is a voice that helps listeners reach out to Mother Mary who “leads us to Jesus Christ her son and God." “Through Radio Maria, the good work of Mother Mary is proclaimed more and Christians get to know and learn to be prayerful just like Mama Maria,” he said.

Father Mugerwa thanked Radio staff for visiting the St Augustine Catholic Community and spending a week with the parishioners.

Emmanuel Ssegujja, the national promotions manager at Radio Maria reveals that the visit was led by two radio staff members and seven volunteers. The visit will climax on Sunday with Mass led by Father Kizito Kirenga the director of the radio in Uganda.

"I appreciate the cooperation that students have shown to us so far because it is them who organise everything and we have really had good time with them,” said Ssegujja.
