Two females are in the Makerere University guild race to replace Ann Adeke, a fellow female.

They are Sarah Aseru, the Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) candidate and Lillian Aber, an independent
The female candidates come from Complex Hall which has never produced a guild president.

If either candidate wins this race, Makerere may not only see the fifth female guild president but also two female guild presidents in a row, for the very first time in the history of the 91-year old institution.

Aseru and Aber will struggle to beat competition from strong males including UYD-leaning independent candidate, Ivan Bwowe and other independent candidates.

The contest has attracted eight candidates.

The winner of the March 19 poll will replace Ann Adeke, the fourth female guild president.

Other female guild presidents were Juliana Norah Njuba (1987/88), Sarah Kagingo (1997/98) (whose guild was dissolved midway and taken over by Peter Ojur), and Susan Abbo (2007/08). Between 1987 and 2007, there was a decade-long interval between governments led by a female.
