Makerere Students Still Ignorant Of New Registration, Fees Policy

Following the previous students’ strikes over what was termed as unfair policies, a new fees policy was put in place this academic year.

The university council also passed a new registration policy that requires students to register with the university within the first 10 weeks of each semester.

For the fees policy, each student is required to pay Shs 200,000 in the first three weeks of each semester. This amount is part of the total fees to be paid to the university.

As a result of frequent strikes at Uganda's premier institution of higher learning, Makerere University council came up with a new tuition policy that is currently being popularised by GRCs and the University bursar at college levels. Samuel Mugarura, the third-year student of Bachelor of Science in botany (Chemistry) at Makerere, who made tear gas from sugar and promising to make bombs too, has written to Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda seeking support of government.

Mugarura has been making rounds on social and in mainstream media after he demonstrated his first successful teargas cannister last week behind Caltect Acamemy, a few metres from Makerere University.
